Week 23: The Baby Bump

Pregnancy Highlights for the Week:

How Far Along: 23 Weeks

Fruit/Veggie: Large Mango

Size: Approximately 11 inches long and 1 pound

Baby changes:
Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound, you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.

Best Moment this week: While swimming laps, baby girl started doing flip turns of her own! I think we have an Olympic swimmer on our hands :) It was the strangest feeling, having my little one flipping inside of me while I swim laps. I think she is already Mom's little workout partner! I can remember going to aerobics classes with my mom wearing my hot pink and pale pink striped leotard with matching leg warmers and mini-arm weights...I look forward to having a little tag along!!!

Movement: She is in constant motion it seems. She is kicking and punching several times a day.

Food Craving: I can't curb my sweet addiction. I wish I could blame it totally on baby girl, but I have always had this problem!

What I miss: These days I don't miss as much...but maybe my cute jeans. I can no longer come close to wearing my regular pants with the belly band :(

Sleep: I sleep great and seem to have more energy lately!

What I am looking forward to: Finding a crib for the little one

Symptoms: I am in the "honeymoon period" of pregnancy, praise the lord! So there aren't many symptoms to report besides some back aches!

Gender Reveal Day Part I

As you can imagine, Gender Reveal Day was full of excitement from start to finish. I think it will take several posts to express all the joy.

We decided to have a Gender Reveal Party and find out with Baby D's Gender by cutting into a cake, that was either pink or blue, so our loved ones could be part of the big reveal! The excitement was building all day long as we anticipated the gender and contemplated whether there was....well...something there or a void!

It was so amazing to get to see our sweet little baby's arms and legs moving about. The tech said again you have a VERY ACTIVE baby! She kept putting her little hands against her face and forehead. The most profound thing about our little girls is not so little. She has the LARGEST FEET I have ever seen on an ultrasound (US). I am afraid we might have a 6'4" "little" girl!

We were even lucky enough to have an impromptu 4 D US!!!! The tech was teaching the nurse at our birth center how to use the 4D function. A 4D US is different from a 3D US, in the 3D US they take 3 dimensional still images of the baby. In 4D you get to see the baby in 3 dimensions while in motion. It was so cool to see little girl's face, although it was really distorted and covered by her umbilical cord! Girlfriend was snuggling up with the placenta. The placenta, by the way was reaaaaaaally cool to see in 4D! I will post the video we took of the 4D US as soon as I can figure out how to edit it!

After our appointment, Dylan and I went to lunch and studied our US pictures discussing the hints we got about the gender.

For now here is the Post-ultrasound reaction.

(For the record I don't know why I did this while driving....I was so excited after the US and I just didn't think!)

IT'S A ______!!!

It was so fun to find out the gender at our Gender Reveal Party surounded by our loved ones!!!!

GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you can't tell by our faces we are SHOCKED! I never thought I would have a girl and Dylan REAAAAAAAAAALlly didn't think we were having a girl. I am over the moon for our sweet little girl. What a precious gift from God.

Gender Reveal Day

Today is the day we find out if we will be buying blue or pink....footballs or tutus.....jerseys or dresses....

I will post the details tomorrow!

Just because I like reading posts with pictures...and I can't stop thinking about how thankful I am for Dylan and what a wonderful Dad he is going to be to our little Dylan or little Katherine...

Happy Cinco De Mayo or Gender Reeveal Day!
